Lucky’s Tale coming to VR, debuting at E3 2014
Playful Corp, a new company formed by the creators ofWords With Friends, will debut their first virtual reality game at E3 next week.Lucky’s Taleis coming exclusively to the Oculus Rift under a partnership between Playful and Oculus VR. This is one of the first official studio partnerships to create a Rift exclusive.
Despite being a VR title,Lucky’s Taleis not a first-person game. It’s a platformer experienced in the third-person perspective, believe it or not. Playful is not saying much about it now, and they’re hoping they can have people experience this for the first time at E3 next week.
“This is not a port. We’ve made something new, from scratch — a made-only-for-VR game,” said Paul Bettner, CEO of Playful. “The result is unexpected and surprisingly delightful. A platformer in VR? It’s a totally new experience, not what typically comes to mind when you think of what a VR game can be. I can’t wait to see how people react when they get to play it for the first time at E3.”

Playful Corp’s team is made up of industry veterans that have worked on hit games likeAge of Empires, Halo Wars, andStarCraft. They have a second title in development calledCreativerse, also coming to Rift and Steam.
