If you’re sick of Mender fees inFinal Fantasy XIV, it’s time to source some Grade 8 Dark Matter and learn to repair your own gear. Repairing your equipment saves a ton of Gil, as well as a lot of effort. Plus, you’ll be that friend coming in clutch with the repair save.

Vendors with additional unlock requirements

There are also a few vendors throughout Eorzea and beyond who sell Grade 8 Dark Matter, but only if you complete an associated quest. They’re associated with Custom Deliveries, Tribal Quests, and Skysteel Tools:

How does Repair work in FFXIV?

Each piece of gear has certain specifications for repair, including which Disciple of the Hand class can perform that repair. You’ll need to level your crafting classes to repair higher-level gear. For example, a Paladin’s armor typically needs a suitably leveled Blacksmith or Armorer, while Accessories, such as rings and necklaces, require a suitably leveled Goldsmith.

Under theCrafting & Repairsheading on a piece of equipment, theRepair Leveldisplays crafting class requirements and levels. You’ll also find the exact condition of the item as well as its Spiritbond Level. Mend the gear yourself bya right click, then selectRepair. Then, select either the individual item orRepair Allin the bottom right corner to mend all pieces at the same time.

How do I know if my gear needs to be repaired?

The character window displays the state of your equipped gear. On the left side of each piece, a bar denotes theconditionof your items. A blue bar means the gear’s condition is at least 100%. When it’sgreen, the gear’s condition is less than 100%. When a piece of gear drops to 0% condition, it no longer provides any stat increases.
