As someone who’s been playingFortnitemore or less since its culturalinception, seeing the game today is kinda wild. Between the near-constant IP and brand partnerships, the pro community that has evolved around the game, and a plethora of new features added,Fortnitehas become more than it once was.

In early 2018, the game unveiledpatch 3.0, and as usual added new outfits, including the introduction of the infamous John Wick skin. But, it also unveileda featurethat some could argue made the game a bit easier for new players — Turbo Building. What is Turbo Building inFortnite, and how does it work?

What is Turbo Building in Fortnite?

WhileZero Buildhas been around for a hot minute (since early 2022 to be exact),Fortnitewas created with the ethos of constructing buildings and contraptions: a mechanic that spilled over into the now “main” battle royale mode.

Using the nomenclature from the “building improvements”blog postwritten by the Fortnite team on June 09, 2025,Turbo Building “allows you to hold down primary fire and continuously place the selected building piece,”which allows for quicker building. Before this feature was added to the game, players had to click once for every placed building piece, which could get annoying for some players.

Fortnite Turbo Building

Turbo Building is, by default, toggled ‘on’ for all players. To find this setting and toggle it to your liking, go into the Fortnite settings and navigate to the GAME tab. Under BUILDING settings, you’ll find the option to toggle Turbo Building ‘on’ or ‘off’ in between the option to disable the pre-edit option and auto-confirm edits.

To be honest, I can see how this feature would be useful for players, but I can also see how it could be annoying to others. If you get used to doing things one way, and then the game slightly changes how that one way works, I would be annoyed. So, it’s good that it’s an option and not forced onto players.
