Prince of Persia: The Sands of Timewas one of the hottest games of the last generation and its two sequels were pretty damn popular too. However, this generation has not been so kind to The Prince, and Ubisoft believes that it’s all thanks to Kratos. According toForgotten Sands‘ animation director, Jan-Erik Sjovall, the series lost fans toGod of War, and now needs to win them back.

“When we make questionnaires and we ask, ‘what did you play in the past?’ The answer’s‘Prince of Persia’. ‘What do you play now?’ ‘God of War‘. ‘Would you playPrince of Persiaagain?’ ‘No, it’s not hard enough’,” confesses Sjovall. “So the idea [withForgotten Sands] was clearly that we’d try to bring our old audience back, but also we’re winning a new audience.”

“A lot of people ask, ‘will you have gore in the game?’ It’d be fairly interesting. We want to have interesting fight sequences in there but not indulge in the violence likeGod of Wardoes. We want to keep it interesting so the acrobatics, the story and the whole look are all supporting each other and people go, ‘yeah, I want to play that game’.”

I think it’s less about the fact thatGod of Waris so consistently good (which is certainly is), and more the fact that the lastPrince of Persiagame was one of the most boring action experiences ever. Just make sureForgotten Sandsis actuallyfunthis time, and we’re onto a winner.
