According to former Xbox executive Ed Fries, Apple CEO Steve Jobs was a ball of furious nerd rage when he found out that Microsoft had acquired developer Bungie, and the only way to appease his stubbly wrath was to promiseHaloon the Mac.Â
“As soon as we announced we bought Bungie, Steve Jobs called,†says Fries. “He was mad at [Steve] Ballmer and phoned him up and was angry because we’d just bought the premier Mac game developer and made them an Xbox developer.
“So, during the day, I got an email from Steve Ballmer asking me to phone Steve Jobs and calm him down about the whole thing. Anyway, we did this deal with Apple where we’d port some PC games to the Macintosh and help Peter Tamte create this company to do it, and I had to go to a Mac developer conference and get on stage and talk about this whole new partnership. It was a pretty strange time.â€
I don’t think I’d like to see an angry Steve Jobs. He looks a bit like a creepy Geography teacher, and seeing that slightly-not-proper face twisted into righteous fury would probably make my skeleton fall out of my arse. No wonder Microsoft rushed to satisfy him as if he were a jealous Inca God.
