Warner Bros. has big in things in store for 5th Cell’s long-awaited DS puzzlerScribblenauts. The game, released today, has been compared toProfessor Laytonby the publisher, with a belief that it will gain mass-market appeal and herald the start of a whole new franchise.

“The stylized look ofScribblenautsoffers something fresh and friendly that doesn’t appear intimidating,”says marketing manager Phil Lamb. “That combined with the addictive gameplay means that it will definitely strike a chord with casual, female and maybe even ‘grey’ gamers.

“WhatScribblenautsoffers is something akin to Nintendo’sProfessor Layton— an addictive and challenging game that has real mass-market appeal all wrapped up in a uniquely stylized package. We fully expect this title to be the start of a brand new franchise in the DS puzzle market.”

I am certainly glad to see Warner is supporting this game. 5th Cell never had much luck when THQ was in charge of its games, mostly because THQ was very bad at promoting them.Lock’s Questbarely got so much as a shred of marketing, so I truly hope that Warner is serious about giving these awesome developers a big spotlight. Time shall tell.
