“Bring PAX to the South” you screamed. While Penny Arcade might not have heard you, Rooster Teeth did and they put on a hell of a show this past weekend. With four times the attendance of last year, a public demo of one of the year’s most anticipated games, and a killer venue, RTX is eating Penny Arcade’s lunch while they figure out how to expand PAX in coming years.
RTX isn’t quite worth flying out across the country just yet, but it’s getting there. If they can get more developers and more space (they used approx. 1/20th of the convention’s space), RTX could really become something special. These guys learned a lot from PAX’s early years and modeled themselves after their success. It’d be great to see a major gaming convention in my home town, and SXSW is the proof that we are ready for it.
