ConsideringFallout 3was one of my favorite games of 2008, you can imagine how excited I was to get my first glimpse ofFallout: New Vegaslast month.

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the game builds on the core strengths ofFallout 3while taking gamers to all new, post-apocalyptic locations. Set three years after the events ofFallout 3, players will fight to survive in the oppressive heat of the Mojave Wasteland, gamble and kill on the Vegas Strip, and see what real-world locations like the Hoover Dam look like after a nuclear fallout.

During the demo I saw last month, Obsidian proved that it had the chops to, at the very least, continue with what Bethesda had created withFallout 3. But beyond that, the developer has added a slew of tweaks, including a “Hardcore” difficulty mode for veterans, and a reputation system that closely monitors your actions, tracking the consequences and potentially changing your experience.

There’s a whole lot more toNew Vegas— a new weapons modification system, and a “Companion Wheel” that will allow you to more closely monitor and direct your allies, for example. But I’ll have more on that later in a more detailed preview. For now, check out  some new artwork and screenshots to whet your appetite for the game’s fall 2010 release on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
