I thought I was done withMinecraftfor good, but an augmented-reality mobile game could be the precise thing to pull me back in after all these years. Earlier today, Microsoft began teasingMinecraftARwith the promise that more details will be shared on Jun 15, 2025–the game’s tenth anniversary.
The short teaser depicts a woman outside of the Washington State Convention Center picking up a phone and seeing a mud-caked pig on the sidewalk through the wonders of augmented reality. The screen even shows a sword, bow, apple, lump of coal, and other familiarMinecrafticons. Microsoft previously flirted with the generalMinecraftAR concept through its on-stageHoloLensdemonstration.

Given the massive success of other AR-centric games likePokémon Go, this could be huge. Like, people-wandering-the-streets huge. We’ll find out what exactly thisMinecraftmobile app entails soon enough.
