For the second consecutive year, the Game Developers Conference’s organizerssurveyedindustry professionals about their development plans to gain valuable insight into the direction of gaming. After polling 2,600 participants, it’s apparent that developers are focusing their efforts on PC and mobile platforms, while the Wii U lags far behind.

With regard to consoles, PS4 leads the way with 20 percent responding that they intend to release their next game on the platform. Xbox One was slightly behind at a clip of 17 percent. Only 4 percent of developers affirmed that they plan to release their next game on Wii U.

The hotbed areas of interest appear to be PC and mobile gaming. More than half of the survey’s participants confirmed that they are working on PC or Mac, or smartphone or tablet games — 53 percent representing the former, and 52 percent representing the latter.

While 2,600 people certainly don’t encapsulate the entire industry, it’s a large enough sample size for a fairly accurate snapshot of current trends. While the Nintendo number may sound damning, it’s actually almost the same as last year when it was at4.6 percent.
