With the release ofFinal Fantasy XIV Dawntrailjust around the corner, the social media team forFFXIV(lovingly known as Tweetingway within the community) has asked players to submit theirPictomancer-themed artwork. There are some truly glorious entries, but also a worrying amount of paint-eating.
Thankfully, the days of Radion paint are long behind us and unlikely to make a re-appearance as part of the Pictomancer’s basic rotation. Still, surely Eorzean paint is not the best for your digestion.

Thank you all once again for sharing your#PaintYourPictoartwork, they’re all amazing! 🤩Also, please stop eating the paint.
Players have been submitting their artwork in their droves using the hashtag#PaintYourPicto, and while their skill is inarguable, there is something of a worrying trend running through a lot of the artwork shared — eating the paint.

Now, as a miniature painter, I can confirm that sometimes, just sometimes, paint gets consumed entirely by accident. Dipping your brush into your drink that you’ve stupidly put a little too close to your paint water, accidentally drinking said paint water by mistake, or even licking your brush to sharpen the point before rinsing it off entirely are all ways by which I have consumed paint.

This was pointed out in the comments, with people reiterating the brush-licking point and others who went as far as to say that Nuln Oil is ‘too yummy’ (which I cannot get behind because Nuln Oil is precious and far too easily spilled).
Others asked some highly appropriate questions such as “is the paint safe to eat if it’s made out of Aether?” and when Square Enix is planning to drop the “/eatpaint” emote. Also, I can’t finish this without noting my favorite submission using the #PaintYourPicto so far:
