Another new hero shooter has entered the fray. Say hello toWildgate, the first title from former Blizzard Entertainment president Mike Morhaime’s Dreamhaven publisher.

Developed by Moonshot Games,Wildgateputs its spin on the genre by placing its Prospectors (heroes, legends, etc.) in space ships for “epic spaceship battles” where teams can fight against other ships and crews in space, board their ships, and more.

“Blast off into high-stakes spaceship battles and intense first-person shootouts, where no two matches are ever the same,” the game’s Steam description reads. “If you want to claim the ultimate prize — the mysterious and priceless Artifact — you’ll need to improvise on the fly, whether it’s chasing down rival crews and stealing their gear, repairing your damaged ship, or scanning for precious resources.”

The Reach is “a vast, procedurally-generated map that changes with every game” and is a “dangerous, unpredictable place, filled with deadly hazards and treasure beyond your wildest dreams.” Players will have to make their way “through cosmic storms, battle space vermin, and plunder alien ruins for lost caches of loot,” while competing against other ships.

Every match ofWildgateis said to be totally different, according to the developers, and each Prospector has their own tools and abilities to differentiate from one another. You can fight other ships and raid them for gear, or head straight for the prize.

At the heart of each match is your ship, which is described as your “home and lifeline” that you will have to work and fight to keep “topped up with ice, fuel and ammo so you’re ready for anyone or anything the Reach throws at you.”

I think the concept that the game is promising sounds fun enough. The idea of fighting against other ships while chasing some kind of treasure gives meSea of Thievesvibes, but will it be enough to stand out in a field of hero shooters? I think it’s different, but it could end up being too different that most players simply don’t care.

I’m rooting for the game to do well because it seems refreshing, and we can all find out more in aset to kick off on April 10.
