The series will be three parts in full

Today, we got our first look at the next entry in theFinal Fantasy VIIRemakeseries.Final Fantasy VII Rebirthis the second of three planned entires, Square Enix confirmed today, and will arrive next winter for PS5.

The trailer closed out today’sFinal Fantasy VII25th Anniversary Celebration.  In it, we see Cloud walking around in an open area, soon joined by Sephiroth. The pair walk around a massive area, as questions circle around.

Cut-in text asks what will happen to the planet, and what Sephiroth’s endgame is. At one point, someone asks if she’s some kind of impostor. Then we see Zack and Cloud, walking towards Midgar, same as they were in the ending ofFinal Fantasy VII Remake.

Final Fantasy VIIseries producer Yoshinori Kitase confirmed in the presentation that the remake project will be composed of three parts:Final Fantasy VII Remake,Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and one last unannounced game.

You can (not) redo

TheFinal Fantasy VIIteam shared some messages on social media following the reveal. Creative directorTetsuya Nomura, directorNaoki Hamaguchi, and producerYoshinori Kitaseall share some thoughts.

“Final Fantasy VII Rebirthis being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not,” writes Nomura. “In fact, new players might even enjoy starting theirFinal Fantasy VIIjourney withFinal Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud and his friends embark on a new journey in this game, and I believe that the scenes they witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience.”

Nomura says he “can’t wait” to share the reason behind naming the entriesRemakeandRebirth, as well as unveil the third title. He also says development has already started on the third entry.

“Making the middle part of a trilogy has its own challenges, but there are plenty of classic second installments in the world of film that are defined by stunning story twists and deeper explorations of their characters,” Kitase writes. “Often these second installments become a favorite amongst the fans. In the same vein, we are aiming to makeFinal Fantasy VII Rebirthan even more gripping and memorable experience thanFinal Fantasy VII Remake, so please wait a little longer while we finish up.”
