The most significant new feature inFIFA Soccer 11is something that developer EA Canada is calling Personality+ — it uses a database that evaluates players’ skills to provide a much more authentic gameplay experience. Essentially, Personality+ differentiates the best of the best soccer players from the mediocre ones, and in doing so, it ensures that players in the game will play like their real-life counterparts.

Check out theFIFA 11developer diary above, where creative director Gary Paterson goes through various facets of Personality+ — using cool-looking red/blue development models! — and how they affect gameplay. For example, a low-skill player will have a much higher variance in his shot placement — he’ll be much less accurate and reliable than a high-skill player. This applies on defense, too, where low-skill defenders will be more easily beaten by adroit dribblers.
