It’s a sign that something’s happening with 2K Marin’s troubled title

Just a few weeks after a possiblechange of direction was hintedfor the troubledXCOMFPS reboot,Digital Trends is now reportingthat the website for the game has been taken offline. The project has been delayed multiple times with its fate uncertain. Along with the website being taken offline, all previous trailers have been removed from the publisher’s YouTube channel.

Whilst this doesn’t mean that the game has definitely been canceled or a complete overhaul is happening with the title, it does point towards the fact it’s not business as usual at 2K Marin. After the success of the traditional strategy ofXCOM: Enemy Unknownlast year, one wonders if 2K believes that an FPSXCOMwould confuse gamers as to what the franchise is about.

Now that we’ve gotten our hands on a traditionalXCOMgame that2K says is a success, I would think there would be less resistance to the FPS reboot. The 1950s/60s setting was interesting and I liked the stylized designs especially that of the alien enemies. One thing is for sure, I’d rather not see the game turn into vaporware; either announce it or cancel it.
