Oh hey, Metroid got a tweet for its 35th anniversary

Happy 35th, Samus It’s wild to see how Nintendo handles some of its golden franchises. I mean, they obviously have access to internal figures and market research. But seeing how they trot out some series every now and then as Easter eggs or cameos for other games is fascinating.F-Zerois pretty much the perfect example of something that is basically dead in the water, but Nintendo is proud of showing off. For a time,Metroidfit that bill too....

Once again, the protagonist can’t catch a break in Far Cry 5

It’s kind of a running joke that eachFar Cry“hero” (Ajay was far more of a paragon than Jason) is screwed at the start, or on the game’s packaging. I mean, more screwed than the average comeback tale, at least — we haven’t had a wistful empowering cover since the second iteration. Ubisoft provided a new look atFar Cry 5today, which among other things, re-confirms that it’s set in America, with all sorts of lampooned Americana....

Rock of the Dead gets free iDevice apps, new trailers

Rock of the Dead, Conspiracy Entertainment’sTyping of the DeadmeetsGuitar Herogame, hits shelves on October 5. You kill monsters with guitars, rocking out to classical music and (at least on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3) Rob Zombie. Oh, and Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day will be providing voices. It sounds ridiculous, and I want it. To promote the game’s upcoming release, a handful ofRock of the Deadapps will be released for Apple’s iStuffs....

Suda 51 and Seaman creator making the Four Rooms of games

I love the 3DS for a lot of reasons. One of the biggest is that it’s the last place for games that are not quite AAA budget HD titles, but not quite $1-$15 downloadable, to potentially thrive. With the PSP and the Wii both on the cusp of passing the torch to their HD successors, the 3DS is the last place where “punk rock” games might find success on the retail market....

Temper your expectations for May’s Games with Gold

It’s more in line with the usual offerings If April’s Games with Gold lineupwas the best yet, and I’m inclined to agree with Brett that it was, then whatever Microsoft has in store for May can’t possibly stack up. I had that sentiment in mind when reading over the list of what’s coming up next, and I’m still rather underwhelmed. On the Xbox One side, it’s a decent effort.Defense Grid 2will be free with an Xbox Live Gold membership throughout May, followed byCostume Quest 2from May 16 – June 15....

The Assassin’s Creed movie is perfectly fine if you already like Assassin’s Creed

And probably nonsensical if you don’t “I’m an aggressive person,” Cal Lynch,Assassin’s Creed‘s protagonist, explains maybe a half-hour into the movie. This is a bold understatement. Cal had been on death row just before Abstergo whisked him away to their science facility. Although the film doesn’t fully explain it, he was convicted of some sort of murder, and murder is about the most aggressive crime there is. That’s how we can logically conclude thatAssassin’s Creedis an aggressive movie: Because there is a lot of murder....
